I miss Hockey. A lot.

27 Jun

I’m trying to learn Russian.
I’m trying to keep up with my friends.
I’m trying to schedule a day at the beach.
I’m volunteering at the library 12 hours a week.
I’m volunteering at my church once a week.
I’m trying to keep up with this blog and two others.
This summer is busy. Kind of.
I have lots on my mind. I’m a teenager, what can you expect?

But I miss hockey. I have (re)watched so many hockey videos, it’s not funny. I’ve (re)watched the All Star Game and the Super Skills challenge more times that I would like to admit. I’ve stalked all of my favorite players Twitter accounts. I’m saving pictures of hockey players, left and right. I’m even writing hockey fan-fictions, which I’ve always been against!

This is getting out of hand.

2011 NHL Awards: Fantastic but as Awkward as Ever!

22 Jun

You: Did you enjoy the 2011 NHL Awards Show, Kristin?

Me: Oh heck yes! It was great but definitely awkward.

You: Everyone’s saying it’s awkward. How so?

Me: I’m going to answer that question with a question: If you put a huge group of amazing hockey players and a huge group of people who know nothing about hockey into a huge room with screaming fans, how are you not going to get an awkward show?

You:  I guess you’re right there. Do you have a favorite moment during the Awards show you’d like to point out?

Me: Besides all the parts with Jeff Skinner?

You: You know it.

Me: Probably when Jonathan Toews didn’t win the award for the Frank J. Selke Trophy; the look on his face was great. He wasn’t angry or anything– just seemed pretty disappointed.

You:  Favorite award given out?

Me: Definitely the Calder Trophy. I apologize but I was screaming like crazy. It might sound cliché for a teenager to love Jeff Skinner but I do and I’ll admit it to anyone.

You: Does this mean you like Justin Bieber?

Me: Justin who?

You: Wait you don’t know who Justin Bieber is?

Me: Exactly.

You: Anyways… favorite presenter(s)?

Me: Camille Grammer and Adrienne Maloof from“the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

You: …Why?

Me: I don’t understand how they got Marty St. Louis’s name wrong when they said it on the big screen! They pronounced his entire name wrong! They were just great. Wasn’t it great?

You: So great, Kristin, so great! Nobody else shares your enthusiasm on it but whatever. Which award surprised you the most?

Me: Most definitely the Jack Adams Award! Everyone was thinking it was going to be Alain Vigneault, the coach of the Vancouver Canucks, but it was the coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dan Bylsma, who won it!

You: Yeah, I was totally shocked!

Me: Me too! But I totally understand why. Both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were injured and everyone’s like “that’s it, they’re done!” But no, they still made it into the Playoffs!

You: That was pretty impressive but do you know what’s more impressive? How many people laughed at Jay Mohr’s jokes! Horrible, right?

Me: You read my mind. It was sort of sad but I laughed a little!

You: Of course you did. Now, what are your final thoughts on the NHL Awards show?

Me: It was great, awkward, disappointing and exciting.

You: Disappointing? How so?

Me: Some of the awards given out. *Cough, Ted Lindsay Award, Cough*

You: Let me guess: you wanted Steven Stamkos to win?

Me: No. I would never! I’m so happy that Daniel Sedin won!

You: Yeah, right. How are you going to get through the summer?

Me: Honestly, I’ve missed hockey. It’s already been a week and it sucks without it! Only a lot (and I mean a lot) of hockey videos and re-runs of the NHL Awards show will get me through this summer!

You: Hopefully.

Boston wins Game 6

13 Jun

You: Are you angry?

Me: Oh yes I am.

You: Why are you angry, Kristin?

Me: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because my Vancouver Canucks lost 5-2. That’s right. 5-2. Not 5-4, which I would have been less sad about but 5-2. They played horribly. Horribly. Emphasis on the HORR.

You: Kristin, they might come back in Game 7. Have hope.

Me: Yeah, I had hope when Boston got 4 goals in like the first 4 minutes of the game. Lot of good that did me.

You: It’s coolio though, Kristin. Remember when the Chicago Blackhawks were like down 3-0 in Round 1 and won 3 games after that?

Me: Yeah, they lost Game 7.

You: You don’t have to be a downer. Even Timmy Thomas let in 2 goals.

Me: And saved 38.

You: What are your thoughts on Luongo? Schneider?

Me: Luongo was my BFF after Game 5 but now he’s like my frenemy. I have nothing but respect for Schneider. Did you see some of his saves?

You: Yeah, I saw them. They were fantabulous. Thoughts on Timmy Thomas?

Me: As much as I hate to admit, he played amazingly. He had incredible saves but overall, I still don’t like him.

You: Thoughts on Luongo talking trash about Timmy Thomas?

Me: Blown way out of proportion. But I do know he probably was biting his tongue after letting 3 goals in.

You: Did you enjoy the game despite the loss?

Me: Honestly, I couldn’t. If it wasn’t such a big lead by the Bruins, I would have most definitely enjoyed it. It was physical, fun and there was a lot of power plays which are always exciting.

You: Did you see Wayne Gretzky there? We all know you ah-dore his eyes.

Me: Oh yes. It was one of the moments that lightened up the mood for me. I was fired up but he gave me just a little of hope for Game 7.

You: Aren’t you excited that Game 7 is going to be held in Vancouver?

Me: Oh heck yes! If Vancouver wins, there will be this huge standing ovation for like an hour. They’ll have their fans watching them as they win. If Boston wins, they won’t have all that.

You: How do you think you’ll react when you’re watching Game 7?

Me: I’m definitely going to be alone. And I’m going to be really loud.

You: How will you react if Boston wins Game 7?

Me: I’ll be devastated. By the way that Boston’s playing, it seems very likely that they will win. But I’m crossing my fingers that Vancouver will recover from this loss and play a great game on Wednesday.

You: How will you react if Vancouver wins Game 7?

Me: I’m going to be screaming so loudly, I’ll be arrested for disturbing the Peace.

I Never Want to be a Bruins Fan.

And this is why.

I like somebody who likes another hockey team. Oops.
