Mucho respect for Steven Stamkos

30 May

I’ve never really liked Steven Stamkos much. He always bothered me because of his pointy face, extreme talent and him playing a key role in the sweeping of the Washington Capitals a couple of weeks ago from the Playoffs. It was a tough choice to root for the Tampa Bay Lightning and one that I didn’t take lightly but my hatred for the Boston Bruins is much more than the hatred of the Bolts so I rooted for them. They lost at Game 7 but that was before Steven Stamkos got hit in the face with a puck that was going a gazillion miles per hour. I’ve seen athletes get hurt before but none that would go, after a broken nose, back on the playing field, or in this case: ice, and continue playing a pivotal role in the game! I love hockey players. I consider them the toughest and roughest players in all of sports and for good reason too!

worse than I thought!

After getting treated, he returned to the next period with a bar covering his face but was left with a gruesome gash on his pretty-pointy face. I have so much more respect for Steven Stamkos than I’ve ever had and I’m proud to call myself a Stevkos fan!

Boston Bruins: Eastern Conference Champions

27 May

Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals was one of the most amazing hockey games I’ve seen in a long time. It was fun, exciting, scary, terrifying and crazy all rolled up into 2 and a half hours of hockey. Unfortunately, the Boston Bruins scored the one and only goal sending them into the Stanley Cup Finals and eliminating the Tampa Bay Lightning from the playoffs. Better luck next year. Maybe.
I’m not as sad as I thought I would be. I’ve decided, however, that this is the Vancouver Canucks year and I’m rooting for them to win the Stanley Cup.
I’ve gained much respect for Steven Stamkos even. I know what you’re thinking: Kristin, is it because half of his nose was broken off by a puck that was going a million miles per hour? Yes. Yes that’s the reason. I enjoy making fun of his awesome sauce owl-like face and his amazing playoff beard although it will be most likely gone before the night is over.
Props to the Boston Bruins. I’m not happy but I’m not too sad.

Is Alex Semin making you feel better? Yes, yes he is.

I'm not sure what that girl is trying to do...

Washington Out of the Playoffs… for good.

5 May

Yesterday… was a horrible day. I’ve got to say that I had a feeling, a very depressing feeling, that my Washington Capitals were not going to win yesterday and therefore were going to be eliminated from the Playoffs by the Tampa Bay Lightning. And I, as I thought, was right. Again. I watched as Alex Semin played little and Alex Ovechkin played a lot and I remembered how much I loved my amazing, red Russians:

...Oh yes, wouldn't I like to be in the middle of those two!

Of course, those two didn’t make up for their horrible loss (5-3) but with a little of the Beach Boys (“Wouldn’t It Be Nice”) and dressing up ridiculously girly today, my day was officially made up. If only that were true. Now I’m forced to root for the San Jose Sharks, what a pity. Thank God I didn’t buy a Washington Capitals flag to run around the streets with while waving it over my head for when they won the Stanley Cup. Great way to save $30: don’t buy a Washington Capitals flag–and don’t root for them either.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the Capitals had won, then they might have won the Stanley Cup.

Sounds kinda catchy, don’t you think?

Caps vs. Bolts… Game 2: Terrifying, Fun, Insane!

2 May

First Period: Tampa Bay got the first goal, which was very annoying. The Caps were incredibly annoying and I was screaming for Alex Ovechkin to step his game up. Honestly, I hated this period so freaking much and was very relieved that Tampa Bay only got one goal. In fact, I was very surprised they did get only one goal. Neuvirth was the best Capital by far during this period, and so far the whole game.

If only he knew how I felt about him right now.
Second Period: Neuvirth did so freaking fantasic in the second period, I almost cried. I was so happy when the Caps finally (FINALLY) got a  goal by Brooks Laich, his first of the Playoffs! It was a great play and they deserved the goal. 27 shots on goal by Washington this game and only 7 by Tampa Bay. I’m glad for the goal but it hurt like crazy jumping up and down when they finally scored. The third period’s about to start and I’m worried that Steven Stamkos and the rest of the Tampa Bay Lightning are going to bounce back and take it to the next level. I’m also nervous that Neuvirth will start to let goals in… we will see.
Third Period: So St. Louis got a goal, which I had a feeling he was going to. Mike Green got a penalty for roughing on Steven Stamkos (which I was kind of happy about) and fortunately, the penalty didn’t cause a goal because I would have been really, really mad. AND FINALLY ALEX OVECHKIN GOT A GOAL with like 1:30 minutes in the game!! I was so surprised and happy and scared that I screamed louder than before. They were going to go into OT which meant they might win!

OT: 4 and a half minutes before I had to be in bed… Tampa Bay scored and I was losing my mind in screaming: “I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU!” And now with my muscles sore, eyes puffy and red, I’m about to venture into bed and I won’t be able to get the after-game-anger out of my mind until 12:00 A.M. And what really sucks is that I have to wake up at 5 in the morning.

Goodnight everyone. Maybe Capitals will win next time. Maybe.
